Meet Harvey!
Harvy has lived in Prince Albert since moving from India at just six years old, and has been part of SGU since its very beginning. As a student with a passion for both volleyball and Air Cadets, she says these activities help her build discipline and skills that carry into every part of her life. Her mom was the one who first found out about SGU amid the pandemic and Harvy was thrilled to see that it was an ongoing program. Now, Harvy is especially excited about the new RAISE initiative, and says that previous programs have helped her grow. “I get more confidence and character building [during the programs], and connecting with people from Saskatchewan. And meeting new people!” she shares enthusiastically. Focused on her dream of becoming a neurosurgeon, Harvy feels confident that the connections she’s made through SGU will continue to shape her future. If she were to describe the program to others, she says it’s “just for girls,” which creates a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can feel comfortable and supported.
Meet Lily!
Lily lives in Pelly, Saskatchewan and has been attending SGU programs for two years after her mom discovered the page on Facebook. As a homeschooled student without many extracurricular activities, SGU has become a central part of her social life and learning experience. She especially enjoys the crafts, the group atmosphere, and the chance to connect with others through the Pen Pal Program. Lily says the experience has also helped her become more confident with technology. “It’s a really good Zoom [program], and it helps a lot with learning. I think it should go on for a long time,” she says. Aspiring to become a famous artist, Lily hopes future SGU programs will include more opportunities to meet and learn from working artists.
